March 3rd 2009

Have now heard back from the Prime Ministers Office who have approved my petition calling for the PM to do everything within his powers to get the EU to exclude retained firefighters from falling within the 48 hours working directive. The problem being that as it stands the hours that a retained firefighter is on standby and this is well over 100 hrs a week this time is included and if enforced would have a detrimental effect in seeing a reduced service being provided which in safety terms would be devastating. It could also lead to the possible closure of smaller fire stations.
Here is the link to the petition which is also available on my home page. PLEASE HELP OUR RETAINED FIREFIGHTERS  AND SIGN THE PETITION.
