Just when we thought that petrol and diesel prices were going to come down to around 90p a litre those lovely men from OPEC decide to cut back on production which in turn will force the price up again.... best thing about this is dear old Gordon Brown is angry about their decision and we all know why because he and Darling were intending to put another 2p tax on a litre. We can't win either way...call the election Gordon at least the Conservatives have a sensible and workable policy on fuel.

Those lovely Lib Dems at County Hall have gone back on their word once again... do you remember the storm that brew up over the tea leaves that were adopted as the County Council's new logo? You do then you may well remember that when I asked the question seeking assurances that they wouldn't take the place of the crest on the signs at the Topsham Road entrance as the crest signifies that it is the home of the Chairman they assured me that they wouldn't.... 12 months on and yes you guessed it we have the leaves outside County Hall.... how much did the signs cost and as we are heading into a recession is this really making good use of council tax payers money??? I hardly think so!!!  I am now keeping a watchful eye on the signs on the Devon boundary as they also promised that these wouldn't be replaced with leaves. Do you feel as strong as I do about this issue if so write to the local papers and lets fight for the Devon crest.

I am delighted to learn that the government have now deleted Lyme Bay from their list of areas designated for wind farms..as blog readers will know I was totally against this area being used for a wind farm as it is used as a safe haven for shipping during storms and such a wind farm would have been a hazard with the potential threat of a major oil pollution incident along our coastline should a ship have collided with one of the turbines. This would have been disastrous for our local economy in terms of tourism. There are also the many designations that would have been threatened i.e. World Heritage Site... I also believe that the Military made representations as they use Lyme Bay for practice.

It is I feel regrettable that the East Devon licensing committee granted the gaming license for the Dove, although it must be said that it appears that they had no alternative as the planning permission had been granted for the change of use....It would have however been interesting to test the water by refusing and letting the magistrates court make the final decision. I have witnessed first hand the effect some of these establishments have on peoples behaviour who believe that they are going to make a fast buck and end up addicted to gambling.... how do you prevent this from happening??

If you wish to see the two tier District/County structure of local government continuing here in Devon then everything needs to be done to get the message out loud and clear to Hazel Blears who will make the final decision. The Boundary Committee will submit its preferred proposal to the government on 1st January2009 and then there will be just a few weeks to make further representations.  You can of course do something now by signing the Prime Minister On line petition which I started. There are at present nearly 400 signatures but this is no where near enough. If you feel like I do that if it aint broke why fix it then click on the link on the right hand side of my Home page.

At the County Council meeting last Thursday I raised two issues relating to Sidmouth, the first was regarding the Alma bridge in seeking assurances that if it were too be lost to the sea that a replacement would be built not to far away from the bridge so that money could be saved by linking into the Hanger path....I am delighted to say that I received a positive reply from the Executive member for the Environment.  I then went on to find out what the councils policy is on Zebra Crossing Illuminated light poles which are being used with great effect in other areas of the country. I was somewhat puzzled at the reply I received being told that there was no intention to install these in Devon at the present time.....I then pointed out that there were four already in situ in Torrington and the Chairman of the council told me that they are brilliant.... I was somewhat taken back to think that the Environment Executive member wasn't aware of this!!! Surely she should know everything or at least be briefed by the officers on such things.  The good news is that she has given the go ahead for these poles to be provided on the new Zebra crossing on Stowford Rise..... as you can imagine I am well pleased with both of these results.
