Here we are the end of September and once again the
weather is on the change...well it was nice to have almost two weeks
of summer!!
Good news on the Sidmouth - Sidford cycle way with work on the final
phase beginning in October with completion due by the end of
December. I am heartened by those who have contacted me and said how
much they appreciate the facility which takes cyclists away from the
busy A375 and A3052. The link to Fortescue will also be of
considerable benefit to those living to the east of the Sid.

Off to a special birthday party this evening.... Nelson's 250th of
course he won't be there but you never know he may be there in
spirit.
I am at present working on several major projects for Sidmouth and
am keeping my fingers crossed that will be successful. I am
supporting a bid for airport funding towards the renovation
costs of Kennaway House (formerly Church House) which will be going
before the Investing in Devon committee in October. I am also
keeping up the pressure on saving Alma bridge....we can't let this
asset be washed away by the sea can we??

I am really excited about the prospect of the much
needed Stowford Rise Community Centre being built within the next 18
months..... I was over the moon when I received the £250k from the
airport money (Investing in Devon). With the 106 agreement money
from the revamped/bigger Waitrose and other interested parties
the funding is almost there. I am also delighted that I have been
instrumental in getting the Children and Young People's Services to
also get involved and that the Community Centre will also be the HQ
for the Sidmouth Children's Centre. These centres are places where
families with children under 5 years old can get services. With an additional
150 more houses for our young people being built on the remaining
land at Stowford Rise this will be the area where the vast amount of
future youngsters will hail from.
September 16th 2008 There is
no doubt in my mind that the status quo should be an option and indeed
the recommendation put forward by the Boundary Committee when they
make their final recommendation to the Government.....a unitary Devon
is far too big, the financial case hasn't been put and surely can't
stack up. Under a Unitary Devon members will be stretched to the limit
with very little free time, as a District and County member I work
many long hours every week not only attending meetings but also on
case work. I really enjoy it .... if I didn't I wouldn't do it. As a
Community leader I provide not only a strong voice for the electorate
in my division/ward but also listen and support my fellow members and
their electorate on many issues...... if you haven't signed my Prime
Ministers petition calling for the retention of the status quo in
Devon then click on this link and make your feelings known. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/devonstatusquo/

I believe that following the recent crashes on Trow Hill Sidford
the Highways team at County Hall should look very seriously at the
request that I made over 12 months ago to extend the 40mph limit
further east beyond the entrance to Trow Hall as part of their
review of speed limits throughout East Devon. I am unsure of the
severity of the crash last Saturday evening however it looks as
though the vehicle was travelling at far greater speeds for that
particular part of the road. I also believe that the review should
also take on board my other request for a 50mph limit to be
introduced between Trow Hill and the start of the 40mph limit which
takes you down into Colyford. The 50mph section introduced on the
A3052 between Halfway House and Cat and Fiddle works extremely well
and has resulted in fewer crashes.
